One of my favorite moments in this session was when Stephanie (mom) turned to me in the middle of her youngest throwing a fit and said “take it…it’s real life.” Her comment (which revealed her laid back attitude about it) was the key to this session (and any session) going really really well!

The thing is, parents tend to get stressed and frustrated (I am totally guilty when it’s my kids) when their kids aren’t angels during a session, which results in the kids getting more upset or rebellious. But what was was so neat about Stephanie was that her laid back mindset helped turn the littlest of the bunch from fits to smiles.

I always tell my clients that the youngest is the boss during the session. Sometimes that means moving around every 2 minutes, sometimes it means taking breaks, and sometimes it means they want to stand even though you want them to sit. The thing about pictures is, the best way to capture personality is to let them be who they are…and the beauty of it, is that you will get better pictures then you could have imagined because it goes from a coordinated event to “real life.” Real smiles, real jokes, real laugher, real interactions.
